We know the shelf: both sides of it.

Dispensaries and the brands that stock them. We’ve run the menus, the loyalty programs, the paid, the packaging, and the in-store walls for cannabis operators across Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey, and it’s the deepest vertical we have.

Who we work with

Two businesses, one industry, completely different problems.

Dispensaries

You compete on discovery and repeat visits. The menu is the storefront, the loyalty program is the margin, and the customer decides at the counter.
Lowkey · Holyoke · Perpetual

Producer brands

You compete for shelf space you don’t own. Packaging does the selling, the budtender is the sales team, and expansion means a new state’s rulebook.
Pioneer Valley · Therapy · Resinate

Vertically integrated

You’re both at once, and the two sides pull against each other: retail margin against wholesale volume, own-shelf against everyone else’s.

What we know

Cannabis isn’t a vertical we added. It’s where we’re deepest.

Spark Advertising is a cannabis marketing agency working both sides of the industry, dispensary retail and producer brands, across Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey. The work spans brand and packaging, dispensary menus and e-commerce, loyalty programs, local SEO and AI search, paid media inside platform restrictions, and in-store merchandising.
We work both sides of the shelf: end-to-end dispensary support (menus, loyalty, paid, local SEO and GEO) and producer-brand work (packaging, in-store merchandising, multi-state wholesale). Lowkey runs on the dispensary side. Pioneer Valley Extracts, after seven years, sits on the producer side in roughly 85% of Massachusetts dispensaries.
We know the products (strains, formats, concentrates, edibles) what sells, what stalls, and how a buyer actually makes the call at the counter. Resinate proved it works at volume: an 800% lift in delivery orders after a funnel rebuild, and 120% year-over-year traffic three years running.
Because we cut our teeth here, the regulated-industry discipline is built in rather than bolted on. Therapy expands Massachusetts to New York to New Jersey as a multi-brand producer, and the work product stays compliant at every state line: paid, content, packaging, and in-store.
Where we go deep
  • Dispensary side: launch, menus, loyalty, paid, local SEO/GEO
  • Producer side: packaging, merchandising, wholesale sales enablement
  • Multi-state expansion: MA to NY to NJ, and the rulebook at every line
  • Cannabis consumer psychology and in-store buying behaviour
  • Compliance-safe work product, end to end
What breaks here

Four problems every cannabis operator hits.

The ad platforms won’t take your money

Google and Meta restrict cannabis advertising, and the workarounds change quarterly. Growth has to come from channels you own: search, menus, email, loyalty, and the shelf itself.

Your menu is your storefront, and you don’t control it

Dutchie, Weedmaps, and Leafly decide what your products look like and what a customer can filter for. The taxonomy is theirs; the sale is yours.

You compete town by town, not statewide

Cannabis buying is hyper-local. Ranking in your own city isn’t enough: every surrounding town is a separate contest with a separate winner.

A compliance mistake costs more than a bad campaign

Every asset (paid, packaging, in-store, web) has to survive a regulator’s read, and the rules differ at every state line.

In depth

Three engagements, told properly.

Dispensary · built from zero

A dispensary that didn’t exist, ranking in six towns in twelve weeks.

Lowkey came to us as a licence and a location. We built the brand and the identity, the site and the Dutchie integration, the loyalty program, the paid engine, and a town-by-town local SEO structure: all standing up in parallel rather than in sequence. Six neighbouring towns now have their own ranking pages, and monthly revenue went from nothing to six figures.
Producer · seven years

We met them the week they got approval. They had a name and nothing else.

We made the logo and the identity system, then the packaging, then the in-store merchandising that wins shelf position inside somebody else’s store. Seven years later they’re carried in roughly 85% of Massachusetts dispensaries, and we still run the brand.
Vertically integrated · at volume

An 800% lift in delivery orders, and it held for three years.

Resinate had the products and the customers but the funnel leaked. We rebuilt it end to end: the ordering path, the content engine behind it, and the retention layer on top. Delivery orders lifted 800%, site traffic compounded 120% year over year for three consecutive years, and revenue roughly doubled.
The deep dive

Most agencies pick a side. We run both.

Retail and production are different businesses with different customers, different constraints, and different definitions of a good month. Here’s what we actually do on each.

What we don't take on

We don’t take on cannabis clients where the founder doesn’t run point.

Our cannabis work moves because the founder shows up to the call. If the marketing decision sits three layers deep and every change needs a committee, we’re not the right fit, and you’d be paying us to wait.

Building on either side of the shelf? Let’s map it.

Questions

Cannabis, answered.

Not directly. Both platforms restrict cannabis advertising, and the enforcement shifts quarterly. What works is building demand on channels you own (local search, your menu, email and SMS, loyalty) plus the paid inventory that is still open to the category. We’ve run that combination for dispensaries and producer brands across three states.

Both, and they’re genuinely different engagements. Dispensaries need discovery and repeat visits; producer brands need shelf space and the packaging to earn it. Several of our clients are vertically integrated and need both at once.

State by state, with the work product built to survive each rulebook. Therapy is expanding Massachusetts to New York to New Jersey with us, which means brand rollout, packaging localisation where a state demands it, retail-partner outreach, and a compliance pass on every asset at every line.

Lowkey had six towns indexed and ranking within twelve weeks of launch. That’s fast for local SEO, and it happened because the town-page structure went in at build time rather than being retrofitted later.

Not currently. We serve dispensaries and producer brands. Ancillary suppliers (packaging vendors, testing labs, technology providers) are a category we could serve but don’t today, and we’d rather tell you that than learn it on your budget.

Your menu platform, usually Dutchie, controls the product taxonomy and what a customer can filter for. We work inside that: merchandising the digital shelf, structuring products so they’re findable, and connecting the menu to the loyalty and email layers so a visit becomes a repeat visit.
